The public warning issued on May 25, 2010 has been updated to identify the correct product names, weights and UPCs for the affected products. Corrections are identified by an asterisk (*) in the table below.

Caldwell Fresh Foods Recalls Alfalfa Sprouts

Recall Reason: Caldwell Fresh Foods, of Maywood, CA, is voluntarily recalling all alfalfa sprouts manufactured under the Caldwell Fresh Foods, Nature's Choice, and California Exotics brands, because the alfalfa sprouts may be contaminated with Salmonella. Caldwell alfalfa sprouts have been associated with an outbreak of Salmonella Newport that has sickened more than 20 people in 10 states, including 11 people in California.

Packs/Codes: The recalled alfalfa sprouts are labeled and packaged as follows:
Caldwell Fresh Foods - 4-ounce plastic cups and one pound plastic bags, and 2-pound and 5 pound plastic bags in cardboard boxes with sticker affixed with the printed words Caldwell Fresh Foods.
Nature's Choice - 4-ounce plastic cups

Undeclared Sulfites in Dried Sweet Potato
New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker today alerted consumers that Tiffany Food Corporation, located at 1182 Flushing Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, is recalling Dried Sweet Potato due to the presence of undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product.
The recalled Dried Sweet Potato is packaged in a 320 gram plastic bag. There is no apparent production code on the package but a UPC code of 6-930003-800083 can be found on the back of the package. The product was distributed nationwide and is a product of China.
Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets’ food inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by New York State Food Laboratory personnel revealed the product contained high levels of sulfites, which were not declared on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.
No illnesses have been reported to date to this Department in connection with this product. Consumers who have purchased Dried Sweet Potato should contact Tiffany Food Corporation at 718-326-2678.

BAROODY IMPORTS, INC., 1500 B MAIN AVE., CLIFTON, NJ 07011 is recalling BAROODY DRIED APRICOTS because it may contain undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

The recalled BAROODY DRIED APRICOTS, 14.1 OZ / 400 GR. were sold in NJ and NY.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors revealed the presence of undeclared sulfites in BAROODY DRIED APRICOTS in packages which did not declare sulfites on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

FSIS Issues Public Health Alert for Various Ready-To-Eat Deli Meat Products
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for various ready-to-eat deli meat products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. FSIS was notified by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) that various ready-to-eat deli meat products subject to recall in Canada may have been exported to the United States. Recently, a problem was discovered through FSIS microbiological testing of imported product from Canadian Establishment 665, which resulted in a positive sample for Listeria monocytogenes and two FSIS recalls dated May 4 and 5, 2010. FSIS and Canada have received no reports of illnesses as result of consumption of products subject to this alert. Anyone with signs or symptoms of foodborne illness should contact a physician. FSIS will continue to provide information as it becomes available, including information about any related recall activity. Products exported to the United States include, but are not limited to, the following:

All lots and production dates for the above-listed products are subject to this public health alert.
