Voluntarily Recalled in Five States

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Mars Petcare US, Inc. today announces a voluntary recall of select five pound bags of Krasdale Gravy dry dog food sold in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The pet food is being recalled because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, which can cause serious infections in dogs and cats, and, if there is cross contamination, in people, especially children, the aged, and people with compromised immune systems.

The recalled product should not be sold or fed to pets. Pet owners should dispose of product in a safe manner (example, a securely covered trash receptacle) and return the empty bag to the store where purchased for a full refund.

Salmonella can potentially be transferred to people handling this pet food, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the product or any surfaces exposed to the product. Healthy people potentially infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Well animals can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

CASTLEBERRY’S UPDATES STATUS OF NATIONAL CANNED FOOD RECALL

CASTLEBERRY’S UPDATES STATUS
OF NATIONAL CANNED FOOD RECALL
Officials Express Urgent Need for Retailers and Consumers to Identify and Discard Recalled Items

AUGUSTA, Ga. – August 1, 2007 – Citing a continuing threat to public health, Castleberry’s Food Company is urging retailers, food service operations, food banks, charitable organizations and consumers to be diligent in identifying and discarding canned products subject to Castleberry’s national recall.

“Our primary focus is making sure that no potentially contaminated products are on grocery shelves, in peoples’ homes or in emergency food supplies,” said Steve Mavity, SVP Technical Services/Quality Assurance for Castleberry’s. “Surveys by our own audit team, as well as those by inspectors from federal, state and local health agencies, confirm that some retail outlets, especially smaller independent and convenience stores, may still have recalled products available for sale. We are renewing our warning not to sell, open, or consume these products.”

Castleberry’s voluntarily instituted the recall on July 18 due to the risk of botulinum toxin, a toxin which can cause botulism, a potentially life-threatening illness. The company broadened the scope of its recall on July 21 and has temporarily ceased production in its Augusta, Ga. plant, where it is suspected that there was a processing problem on one of the facility’s canning lines. Castleberry’s continues to work with the FDA and USDA to identify and correct any production issues.

What Consumers and Retailers Should Do
“Consumers, retailers, restaurants, food pantries and others should reconfirm that all products included in the recall, regardless of best-by date, are immediately disposed of,” Mavity said. “Check the product description and can size of products included in the recall and follow disposal instructions communicated by Castleberry’s and recommended by governmental agencies. In addition, consumers should notify family members and friends about the recall.”

Mavity added, “To strengthen our outreach to smaller independent grocers, gas stations, and convenience stores, we’ve re-directed all of our direct retailer, distributor and wholesaler customers to contact their respective customers downstream, to ensure they are aware of the recall and follow the proper removal and disposal instructions.”

Castleberry’s will assist retailers in disposing of the products through Carolina Supply Chain Services (CSCS). The retailer/distributor hotline to arrange for pickup is 1-800- 821-5293. “CSCS will arrange for immediate collection,” Mavity said.

In disposing of any cans that remain in homes, or in retail establishments with just a few cans on hand, Castleberry’s and health officials are instructing people to double bag the cans in plastic bags that are tightly closed before being placed in a trash receptacle for non-recyclable trash outside of the home. If any of the cans are swollen, bulging or leaking, the consumer should put on gloves and eye protection before double-bagging and disposing of the cans. Slowly remove gloves and dispose of them after use. People should then wash their hands with soap and running water for at least two minutes.

Individuals who feel ill after handling or accidentally consuming any of the recalled products should seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms may include general weakness, dizziness, double vision, and trouble speaking or swallowing. Difficulty in breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distension and constipation are also common symptoms.

There is no need to return cans to stores. For refunds and answers to questions, consumers should contact the consumer hotline at 1-800-203-4412 or visit www.castleberrys.com.

Outreach Efforts Continue
Since the recall was announced July 18, Castleberry’s has:
· Issued public warnings through the news media
· Established a toll-free hotline for consumers that has handled more than 20,000 calls
· Posted recall information and guidance on the company’s Web site at www.castleberrys.com
· Instituted a refund program available online or via mail (requiring no return of product to retailers)
· Deployed recall audit teams to conduct on-site inspections at retail outlets across the country (as of July 31, more than 17,500 stores have been audited)
· Placed recall advertising in consumer publications
· Begun an effort to reach Spanish-speaking consumers and retailers (the company’s Espanol section of Web site dedicated to Spanish speakers will launch August 1)

Full Recalled Product Listing
“We want to remind consumers that as an added level of safety, we are recalling all products listed below, regardless of ‘best by dates’ printed on the cans,” Mavity said. “We encourage consumers and retailers to focus on the product description and can size as these are the critical details in identifying the recalled products. In order to avoid any potential confusion around case and label UPC codes, we’re publishing the complete list without UPC codes.”

The products included in the voluntary recall have not changed since the recall was expanded on July 21.

Nissin Foods Voluntary Recall - Shrimp cup of noodles & chow mein products

The Shrimp flavoring that Nissin Foods USA uses in the Shrimp Cup Noodles and Chow Mein products contains some Lobster flavoring. The ingredient panel does not mention the Lobster flavoring, only "Shrimp" flavoring. The FDA has concluded that because some of the population is allergic to Lobster, that this also must be included on the labels. As a result, any product scheduled for shipment this week (w/o 7/23/2007), was cut and we have been advised that NF USA is going to be using flavoring that does NOT contain any Lobster flavor. Production for the new ingredient product will begin and be available for shipments in the very near future and you will know ASAP on the resumption date.
We apologize for this inconvenience to your business and any ad activity that is running or scheduled to run.
As soon as more information is made available, Nissin will inform all of us.

For now - this is what we know - what we need communicated to our customers - and what we need back from each of you.

1.)
Nissin has instituted a total wholesale and retail recall of SHRIMP (ONLY) CUP NOODLES and SHRIMP (ONLY) CHOW MEIN.

2.)
Nissin is also holding current inventory and shipments out of their distribution facilities of other Top Ramen Shrimp / Top Ramen Shrimp Picante / Cup Noodles Shrimp Picante / Cup Noodles Chili Limon / Cup Noodles Salsa Picante Shrimp / Chow Mein Thai Peanut for pending orders. These remain in full distribution and ARE NOT part of the recall.
These items will not be shipping until Nissin production and package changes are competed. They are currently in the works and shipment details will be communicated in a timely manner to customers and sales agents as soon as Nissin is back in production.

3.)
Important to note: This is a VOLUNTARY recall.
To minimize any losses here, please ask our customers to make every effort to pull products into account warehouses - NOT reclamation - so Nissin can pick it up as soon as possible with warehouse stock.

4.)
We need to know the inventories of the products being recalled and held ASAP for major customers....and again make sure we are making all accounts aware of retail and warehouse actions to be taken for pulling product from distribution channels and retail stores.

You can assure each account that Nissin will work their hardest to resume production and distribution of these products as soon as possible...it will be sooner than later !!

Below is a copy of the correspondence sent to our customers from Matt Talle - Nissin National Sales Mgr.

Dear Customer:

We need your help implementing a voluntary recall of selected shrimp-flavored noodle products made by Nissin Foods (USA) Co., Inc. We have initiated a voluntary nationwide recall as a safety precaution out of concern that they might contain cod or lobster.

This recall covers Nissin Original Chow Mein Shrimp and Nissin Cup Noodles Shrimp. No other Nissin products sold in your stores are affected by this recall.

At the time of the recall, our company had received no complaints or reports of illness associated with these products. The recall was initiated as a safety precaution after it was discovered that the seafood-flavored powder used in these Nissin products also contains cod and lobster.

These products were sold to consumers in retail grocery stores and other foods stores, and can be identified by the UPC codes and label information attached.

If you have any of the above products, it should be removed from inventory and retail shelves, set aside and retained for Nissin pick up or shipping instructions. Once you have retrieved all the product, please contact your Nissin Sales Representative. Please do not destroy the product.

Aside from this above mentioned recall, Nissin Foods has decided to hold all shipments of remaining Shrimp items to customer warehouses. These items are Top Ramen Shrimp Flavor, Top Ramen Shrimp Picante, Cup Noodles Shrimp Picante, Cup Noodles Salsa Picante Shrimp, Cup Noodles Chili Limon, and Chow Mein Thai Peanut.

These flavors do not contain cod or lobster and have no health concerns as in the above mentioned recall. However, they may contain krill which is not labeled as an ingredient in our listing. Although this product is safe for consumption, Nissin Foods feels it is our obligation to discontinue the shipment of these products until we have revised our packaging to reflect this fact. We will contact you soon on when we will commence shipping these new packages.

We ask that these items be held at warehouse level until further notification from Nissin Foods on disposition of these products. Please note that these products do not need to be removed from retail shelves nor do they need to be returned by the consumer.

We are working hard to reach consumers to share this information with them as well. You may also provide the following toll-free number, 866-548-2945, to consumers who have questions.

Most importantly, we want to reassure you that at Nissin Foods our first concern is always for the health and safety of consumers.

Your prompt cooperation will greatly assist us in this action. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Nissin Sales Representative. In the meantime, we look forward to working with you and to continuing to provide you and your customers with the highest quality products.

Sincerely,

Matt Talle

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Manitowoc, WI -- August 1, 2007 -- Lakeside Foods, Inc. of Manitowoc, Wisconsin is initiating a voluntary recall of 15,000 cases of 14.5-ounce French Style Green Beans because some cans may have been under processed and some cans may have leaked.
