VASINEE EXPANDS RECALL OF “THAI FOODS STEAMED MACKEREL FISH” DUE TO POSSIBLE HEALTH RISK
Vasinee Food Corporation, 333 N. Henry street Brooklyn New York 11222, is recalling packages of “Thai Foods Steamed Mackerel Fish” because the product may be contaminated with Clostridium Botulinum, which can cause botulism, a serious and potentially fatal food borne illness.
The sale of this type of fish is prohibited under New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets regulations because Clostridium botulinum spores are more likely to be concentrated in the viscera than in any other portion of fish. Uneviscerated fish has been linked to outbreaks of botulism poisoning; Symptoms of botulism include blurred or double vision, general weakness, and poor reflexes, difficulty swallowing and respiratory paralysis.
The recalled “Thai Foods Steamed Mackerel Fish” was distributed to retail stores in CT, NJ and NY. The product comes in a clear plastic bag with blue trim, labeled “Wang Derm Brand”, and has been expanded to include all UPC Codes. It is a product of Thailand.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The uneviscerated fish was discovered after sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of viscera in packages of “Thai Foods Steamed Mackerel Fish”.
Consumers who have purchased packages of “Thai Foods Steamed Mackerel Fish” are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-878-5996

Sincerely yours,
Vasinee Food Corporation
