MYSTICAL ONE RECALLS "PEANUT PUNCH" DUE TO POSSlBLE HEALTH RISK
Mystical One LLC of Jamaica, NY is recalling its 16 ounce packages of Peanut Punch drink because they may be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune system. Although healthy persons may suffer only short term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriage and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The recalled Peanut Punch was distributed to West Indian restaurants in New York City. The product comes in 16 ounce plastic bottles with expiration date of March 03, 2009.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The contamination was discovered after sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspector and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of listeria monocytogenes in some 16 ounce bottle of Peanut Punch. Production has been suspended.
Consumers who have purchased 16 ounce bottle of Peanut Punch are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the cornnanv at (877) 772-4202.
