Consumer Alert: Uneviscerated Processed Fish

GOLD COAST TRADING CORP., 381 Canal Place, Bronx NY 10451, is recalling Amane dried smoked fish because the product is uneviscerated. The sale of this type of fish is prohibited under New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets regulations because Clostridium botulinum spores are more likely to be more concentrated in the viscera than any other portion of the fish.

The product may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum spores, which can cause Botulism, a serious and potentially fatal food-borne illness. Symptoms of Botulism include blurred or double vision, general weakness, poor reflexes, difficulty swallowing and respiratory paralysis.

Amane dried smoked fish was sold refrigerated in un-coded plastic bags in loose bins from the Gold Coast Trading Corp. store to other stores and consumers in the New York metropolitan area.

The Amane dried smoked fish was found by New York State Dept. of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors during a routine inspection. Subsequent analysis by NYS Food Laboratory personnel confirmed the product to be uneviscerated.

No illness has been reported to date in connection with the product. Consumers who have this product are advised not to eat the product and to return it to the above establishment. Consumers with questions may contact the establishment at 718-292-5302 .
