Asia Cash & Carry Inc. in Maspeth, New York, is recalling 17 cases of CROWN FARMS brand "GULSHA" Frozen Fish (Bangladeshi Freshwater Fish) in 500 g packages with production code AUG 2008 because the product has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.CROWN FARMS brand "GULSHA" (Bangladeshi Freshwater Fish) Fish was distributed to retail stores in New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Michigan and Virginia.The GULSHA Frozen Fish was imported from Bangladesh, and distributed in cases containing vacuum-packed 500 gram packages with a production date of AUG 2008, expiration date JULY 2010, and UPC code 5 060065 430704. There are 16 - 500 gram packages per case.No illnesses have been reported to date.The recall is the result of sampling by the US Food and Drug Administration which revealed that the finished product contained the bacteria. The company had partially distributed the entry prior to FDA's findings.Consumers who have purchased CROWN FARMS brand "GULSHA" Frozen Fish with production date of AUG 2008 and expiration date JULY 2010 are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Kim Seng Company, a Commerce City, Calif., establishment, is recalling approximately 17,674 pounds of granulated chicken bouillon products that were ineligible for import to the U.S., the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.The granulated chicken bouillon products are being recalled because the products do not meet poultry products inspection or poultry exemption requirements. The foreign inspection system of the country where the poultry ingredients originated has not been deemed equivalent to that of the U.S.The problem was discovered after FSIS identified a shipment of products containing poultry which were imported from an unapproved source. The granulated chicken bouillon products were distributed to retail establishments nationwide.
